It is important that the parents and God parents understand the words of the service and the commitment they are making on behalf of their child.

The rector will make an appointment to visit the parents in their home and go through the words of the service which can be seen by clicking this link: Commitment.

 

If the parents feel that they, or those who they wish to be god parents, cannot in all conscience make the commitments required in the Baptism service then the alternative is to have a service of dedication and thanks giving for the child.

God Parents

For every child to be baptized there will normally be no fewer than three godparents, of whom at least two shall be of the same sex as the child and of whom at least one shall be of the opposite sex. When three cannot conveniently be had, one godfather and godmother shall suffice.

The godparents shall be persons who will faithfully fulfil their responsibilities both by their care for the children to their charge and by their example of godly living.

When an older person is to be baptized they shall chose three, or at least two sponsors.

No person shall be admitted to be a sponsor or God parent who has not been Baptized and confirmed. The minister may dispense with the requirement for confirmation.

The godparents must attend the service.
